The Psilocybin mushrooms are also known as magic mushrooms, mushrooms, and shrooms are fungi of the psilocybe genus. 0.2-0.4 percent of psilocybin and a trace amount of psilicyn is present in these mushrooms. Psilocybin mushrooms have long, slender stems topped by caps with dark gills on the underside and are available fresh or dried. It’s easy to identify fresh and dried mushrooms as the fresh ones have white or whitish- gray stems; the caps are dark brown around the edges and light brown or white in the center while the dried ones are generally rusty brown with isolated areas of off-white. |

Psilocybin mushrooms can be brewed as a tea or added to other foods to mask their bitter flavor and also can be are ingested orally. This mushroom can be disguised as candy by coating it with chocolate. Once the mushrooms are ingested, the body breaks down the psilocybin to produce psilocyn. Psilocybin mushrooms are generally abused by teenagers and young adults and are popular at raves, clubs and, increasingly, on college campuses. It is difficult to gauge the extent of psilocybin use in the United States because most data sources that quantify drug use exclude psilocybin. |
