Morel mushrooms resemble that of a honeycomb. They are spongy and are in the shape of pinecone. These mushrooms are found in the wild in many locations throughout America including Missouri, Oklahoma, Indiana, Illinois, and Ohio.

The three common types of morel mushrooms include:

  • The common morel
  • The black morel or sometimes referred to as the smoky morel
  • The half-free morel

You can find these delicious morel mushrooms in the

  • Spring
  • Early summer

They are normally found in moist woodlands and river bottoms, or even along railroad tracks.

Best way to prepare:

  • Soak in salted water overnight
  • Rinse and look for insects
  • Slice in half

  • Add to stews and casseroles
